Sail to the Caribbean with Voyages to Antiquity’s expert lecturers in 2017/18

Voyages to Antiquity has unveiled its final line-up of on board speakers and shore excursions for winter 2017-18 on Caribbean and Cuba sailings.

From a Caribbean historian and archaeologist, to the former ambassador to Cuba and a renowned author, the cruise operator will enrich passengers with the carefully curated programme of insightful guest speakers.

 The new shore excursions available include a chance to see coconut de-husking in Soufriere (St Lucia), a visit to Old Town Havana (Cuba) with time to see San Francisco Square, Plazza Vieja and enjoy the Hemmingway tour driving to San Francisco de Paula as well as visiting Hemmingway’s bar, to visiting the Pyramid of Kukulan in Mexico.

With an average of two experts now confirmed per voyage, each one complements the places visited by providing fascinating insights through daily lectures, helping passengers get under the skin of the cultural, historical and natural treasures of cruise destinations in the process.

Guest speakers include:

 The Caribbean guru: A native of Soufriere in Saint Lucia, Gregor Williams holds an Order of Merlin, Silver from the Government of St Lucia for his contributions to education, history and archaeology. Williams will bring both a personal and professional insight on board the Eastern Caribbean and the Grenadines sailing departing 5 December 2017.

Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic

The author: Renowned author of ‘Crossroads: A history of the Caribbean from Columbus to the to present day’, journalist and historian Dr Carrie Gibson brings a wealth of Caribbean expertise on board several sailings.

The Cuban Ambassador: The UK’s former ambassador to Cuba John Drew will join the Cuba Experience 1 cruise departing 23 February 2017. Drew’s career has seen him take up a diplomatic career in Venezuela, hold postings in Paris, Dublin, Madrid and the Foreign Office in London and he was Ambassador to Cuba from 2004 to 2008. 

Jos Dewing, managing director of Voyages to Antiquity said “Approval from the Cuban authorities to run this diverse programme means that we have their full support to work with local ground handlers and suppliers to offer the most in-depth and exploratory cruises possible. We aim to further develop the Voyages to Antiquity programme in the Caribbean in 2018/19. ”
