A sailor may have seen flight MH370 flying over the Indian Ocean on fire, it has emerged.

The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported this week that a British woman sailing from India to Thailand said she witnessed an aircraft with “orange lights” and a “tail of black smoke” flying over her boat.

“It caught my attention because I had never seen a plane with orange lights before, so wondered what they were,” Katherine Tee was reported writing on an online sailing forum. “I could see the outline of the plane; it looked longer than planes usually do. There was what appeared to be a tail of black smoke coming from behind it.”

Ms Tee said she didn’t report the incident as she wasn’t sure of what she saw. “I couldn’t believe it myself. I even doubted my sanity,” she said.

The sighting would back up the theory that flight MH370 suffered a technical failure before crashing into the Indian Ocean.
