Sands China, which operates The Venetian Macao and Sands Cotai Central integrated resorts, is planning to recycle 100 tonnes of hotel soap in the next 12 months.
In partnership with Clean the World, the hotel amenity recycling company, Sands China will take the unused soap from its 9,000 hotel rooms in Macau and turn it into new soap bars. These new bars of soap will then be distributed to underprivileged communities across the world, in an effort to boost sanitation levels and reduce the spread of disease. The scheme will also reduce the amount of refuse in landfill sites.
“We are excited to have Sands China as our corporate partner in Asia,” said Shawn Seipler, Clean the World’s co-founder & CEO. “Clean the World has diverted over 700 metric tons of waste and created over 12 million new sanitized soap bars delivered to communities, families, and children in 67 countries. With our new soap cleansing and recycling facility, we target to collect and recycle 100 metric tons of soap in our first year in the region. Partnering with Sands China… is a significant step towards our expansion in Asia.”
Clean the World currently partners several major hospitality companies, including Starwood, Marriott, IHG, Carlson Rezidor, Mandarin Oriental, Disney and Caesars.
For Sands China, the move forms the latest part of its environmental programme, which also includes using water-saving showerheads and energy-saving LED lights, recycling paper, plastic and metal, and encouraging staff to save electricity, water, paper and food.
