Scoot to acquire 20 Dreamliners
Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) new low-cost carrier, Scoot, has agreed to acquire 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The new aircraft, which will be delivered from 2014 onwards, will be used to replace Scoot’s Boeing 777-200 fleet, which had been transferred to the LCC from SIA.
“Since commencing operations in June 2012, Scoot has quickly established itself as a low-cost airline with a difference,” said Campbell Wilson, Scoot’s CEO. “Scoot has quickly grown to a fleet of four aircraft and a network soon to encompass nine cities. Today’s announcement that we’ll be acquiring 20 Boeing 787s to power our growth is exciting news and great for our guests – not least because the aircraft’s fuel-efficiency will help keep ticket prices low.”
The 20 Dreamliners were originally ordered by parent company SIA, and will now be fitted with a brand new interior cabin. SIA only ordered a total of 20 Dreamliners, all of which were the longer B787-9 version, seating approximately 280 passengers in a two-class configuration. Currently Scoot’s B777s seat 403 passengers, 370 in economy and 32 in ScootBiz – the carrier’s premium economy-style business class product.
Scoot’s currently flies to five cities (Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei and Tianjin) from its home base at Singapore, with Tokyo commencing on 29 October, and Shenyang and Qingdao in November.
