Sabre has announced its Virtual Meetings booking platform will be available from September.

The technology provider has used a cloud-based scheduling system for private and public rooms so buyers can search and book space for clients.

It will initially be available through GetThere from September and an app through Sabre Red Workspace and has partnered with Glowpoint to make 45,000 private rooms available in the system.

“Even though we’re seeing some recovery in business travel, cost-conscious corporations still want to use HD video conferencing to improve collaboration and increase ROI on travel and technology investments,” said Greg Webb, president at Sabre Travel Network. “One of the biggest challenges they face is the inability to search, book and connect video conferencing systems. Sabre Virtual Meetings solves for that and makes it easy to set up internal video conferencing meetings and connect private-to-public or public-to-public rooms”.

Back in February at the Business Travel Show, we asked Sabre’s commercial director Elisabeth Martins how the launch of Sabre Virtual Meetings could impact business travel (see TDUK 09/02/12). Despite the launch, she was confident that face to face would still remain important. “It is not an

alternative to travel but broadening choice. We have seen that although businesses are spending less internally they actually need to travel more to make sure there is that face to face contact and the deal happens, which is more important,” she told us.
