Seven passengers were injured on Sunday when a Chinese-made MA-60 aircraft veered off the runway upon landing at Fuzhou Airport.

The Joyair flight was carrying 45 passengers and seven crew members to from Hefei to Fuzhou when the incident occurred. Photos from the scene show the badly damaged aircraft almost severed in two, with its propellers pointing towards the ground.

China Central TV reported that the aircraft might have experienced a landing gear failure. If this is the case, it would add to a long list of incidents that have been caused by the MA-60’s landing gear.

In late February 2014, Chinese aviation authorities grounded the entire fleet of MA-60s following two incidents, including collapsed landing gear on another Joyair flight. But this failed to resolve the problem; in December 2014 an MA-60 operated by China’s Okay Airways was forced to make an emergency landing after experiencing similar problems while in-flight, although the aircraft eventually managed to land safely.

The aircraft has also previously been grounded in Indonesia and Myanmar after suffering numerous failures, many apparently connected with the plane’s landing gear.

The MA-60 is a turboprop aircraft manufactured by Xi’an Aircraft Industry Co.
