Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts is set to make its debut in Mongolia.
The Hong Kong-based hotel group will launch the Shangri-La Hotel Ulaanbaatar on 3 June, in the centre of the country’s capital city. The hotel is connected to Ulaanbaatar‘s only luxury mixed-used development, the Shangri-La Centre.
This 28-storey development will debut in 2016, comprising luxury apartments, four floors of retail space and 19 floors of office space. Other features include a 7,200m² sports club with an indoor swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi and sauna, as well as a separate two-level children’s area.
The 290-room hotel is designed to reflect the “rich nomadic culture of Mongolia”, according to Shangri-La, with traditionally-dressed doormen, stone walls and decorative glass lights in the shape of hunting horns.
Overlooking Nayramdal Park or Great Chinggis Khaan Square, the hotel’s rooms and suites are among the largest in Ulaanbaatar, starting from 42m². All feature complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel’s upper floors are dedicated to the Horizon Club rooms and lounge, which are due to open in July.
F&B facilities at the hotel include a lounge and three restaurants, including international and northern Chinese options, plus a pub and grill with outdoor terrace.
There is also a health club with gym, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, plus 2,643m² of meeting space, including seven function rooms and a 1,300m² ballroom.
Mongolia becomes the 15th Asia Pacific country where Shangri-La has a presence. The company is also operates three hotels in China’s Inner Mongolia region, in the cities of Baotou, Hohhot and Manzhouli.
