Shangri-La has continued its rapid expansion in China, with the launch of its first resort-style property in the country.
Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort & Spa is located at Haitang Bay, in the southern island province of Hainan. Spread across more than 18 hectares of land, this expansive resort offers 340 rooms and suites, 300 metres of beachfront, and a vast range of facilities.
Activities are split into two areas – Oasis and Sands – and include a water park and adventure zone, two free-form swimming pools, jogging and bicycle trails, a beach football field and volleyball court, a fitness centre with outdoor deck for tai chi and yoga, and water sports. A large spa will also open later this year.
In terms of F&B, the resort offers four restaurants and three bars, while the corporate market is catered for with a 1,500m² ballroom and 10 function spaces.
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La now operates 40 hotels in mainland China under its Shangri-La, Traders and Kerry brands. But it has firm plans to open a further 14 hotels across the country between now and 2017, including new properties in Kunming, Hangzhou, Harbin and Zhengzhou.
