Shangri-La has unveiled plans to launch its first hotel in Qufu, the birthplace of famed Chinese philosopher, Confucius.
On 1 August 2013, the Hong Kong-based hotelier will open the Shangri-La Hotel Qufu, which is located within walking distance of popular tourist attractions such as the Temple of Confucius, the Mansion of Confucius and the Cemetery of Confucius, all three of which are UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Sites.
Reflecting the city’s Chinese traditions, the hotel’s façade has been designed to resemble a Chinese pavilion with roofs topped flying eaves. The hotel’s entrance porch is also shaped like a traditional Chinese pavilion and supported by eight large pillars.
Inside, the hotel’s huge lobby features marble floors and a glass roof, and contains two fully-grown trees. The 211 guestrooms have balconies with views of the old city wall, the Temple of Confucius and the hotel’s traditional Chinese garden, which also features Chinese pavilions.
Facilities at the hotel include a traditional Chinese restaurant, an international cafe, tea lounge, a 1,600m² pillar-free ballroom and six function rooms.
Qufu is located in eastern China’s Shandong province.
