An Australian tourist has been attacked by a shark while surfing off the coast of Bali.

Local news site Tribune-Bali.com reports that the 48-year-old man was bitten earlier this month while surfing at Balian Beach in Tabanan, West Bali.

The man was treated in hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening

It is believed that a bull shark was responsible for the attack.

Shark attacks are rare in Bali; according to the website sharkattackdata.com, only six incidents have been reported since 2010, none of which were fatal. But all of these attacks occurred off Bali’s West Coast.
