The Sheraton Algarve Hotel in Pine Cliffs Resort has announced a phased renovation as Starwood has signed a 20-year extension to operate the hotel.

The hotel, which is part of Starwood’s The Luxury Collection brand, will get 78 new suites, an Italian restaurant, spa and underground parking as part of the upgrade, in a new agreement with United Investments Portugal.

The hotel’s rooms, public areas, bars and restaurants will also be updated, with work expected to start this November and finish when the hotel opens for the summer 2015 season. More work will take place in the 2015 winter period and more in winter 2016 to be completed for the hotel’s 25th anniversary in spring 2017.

“The renovation of this acclaimed hotel will ensure that Pine Cliffs Resort will remain as one of Europe’s finest resorts for many years to come. The extension to the existing management contract between United Investments Portugal and Starwood Hotels & Resorts further illustrates Starwood’s commitment to the Algarve market and we very much look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with our partners at UIP,” said Even Frydenberg, SVP director operations, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Western Europe.
