Gatwick Airport has posted a 10.7% increase in turnover in its half-year results thanks mainly to increased short-haul services.
New routes from Norwegian, easyJet and Turkish Airlines were the main contributor to its growth in turnover to GBP360.6 million, while its EBITDA raised 14.4% to GBP196.7m.
In the six months up to 30 September 2013 the airport carried 4.4% more passengers to reach 20.8m, with its long-haul operations into North America and Vietnam continuing to grow.
“Gatwick will celebrate four years of new ownership in December. In this time we have turned around decades of underinvestment to enable Gatwick to emerge as a competitive, world-class airport. Our results today show a strong financial performance but we must not become complacent. We must continue to invest and ensure we remain competitive,” said Gatwick’s CEO Stewart Wingate.
Next year Garuda Indonesia will commence its direct services to Jakarta from the airport, while new routes to New York and Los Angeles will also start. A GBP1 billion investment programme is in place to update its terminals.
