SIA brings premium economy to India

Singapore Airlines will bring its new premium economy class to India this month.
Commencing on 25 October 2015, the airline will start offering the new class on its Singapore–Delhi route, before expanding it to the Singapore-Mumbai service on 2 January 2016. The class will be available onboard the Airbus A380 aircraft travelling to and from both cities.
SIA’s premium economy class is the result of an US$80 million investment, and features seats 19.5 inches (49.5cm) wide, with a 38-inch pitch and an eight-inch recline. Seats are configured in a 2-4-2 layout.
Passengers are offered 13.3-inch seatback HD in-flight entertainment screens with noise-cancelling headphones, plus an in-seat power outlet, two USB ports, an amenity kit and more storage space.
In terms of service, premium economy passengers are offered improved F&B, with a choice of meals that can be paired with selection of wines. They will also benefit from priority check-in and baggage, 10% more frequent flyer miles, and a checked baggage allowance of 35kg.
“Our decision to introduce premium economy is in response to the feedback received from our customers which highlighted the increasing global acceptance for this new cabin class. The product offering has been specifically tailored to provide economy class passengers an alternative for medium- to long-haul travel with extra comforts,” said David Lau, SIA’s general manager for India.
The premium economy class will be gradually rolled out across SIA’s fleet of 19 A380s, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs and the first 20 Airbus A350s.
