Sichuan Airlines has expanded its fleet, following the delivery of another Airbus A320 aircraft.
The Chengdu-based carrier welcomed the new single-aisle aircraft on Friday, from Airbus’ Chinese assembly facility in Tianjin. It becomes the 70th A320-series aircraft in Sichuan Airlines’ fleet, and the first to feature the ‘Sharklet’ wing-tip extensions which are designed to reduce drag and decrease fuel burn.
The airline now operates an all-Airbus fleet of A320s and five A330s, and general manager Li Haiying said this was an advantage.
“Thanks to the commonality of Airbus aircraft, we were able to seamlessly introduce the wide-body A330 family aircraft into our fleet. With the introduction of this A320 with Sharklets, we will be able to further optimise our route network and bring a high level of comfort to our passengers as well as further reducing our operational cost”, said Li.
The new A320 is configured in a two-class layout eight seats in business class and 156 in economy.
