China’s Sichuan Airlines signed an agreement with two leasing companies for four new Airbus A350 aircraft.

The Chengdu-based carrier will take three A350s from AerCap and one from ALC, with the first aircraft due to be delivered in 2017.

The configuration of the new twin-aisle jets is yet to be confirmed, but Sichuan Airlines currently operates its long-haul A330s in a two-class layout.

Sichuan Airlines becomes the third Chinese carrier to order the aircraft, following Air China and China Eastern Airlines.

The new aircraft will enable it to expand its long-haul route map; at present the airline flies to Vancouver, Sydney, Moscow, Dubai and Prague, and it has also applied for permission to launch services to Los Angeles and Auckland in future.
