Sichuan Airlines is planning a major expansion of its international network from Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan province.
The carrier currently has a fleet of 13 Airbus A320 aircraft based at Kunming’s Changshui International Airport, operating 39 routes to cities in mainland China and Taiwan.
But over the next five years, the carrier plans to expand its Kunming-based fleet to 40 aircraft. This will enable Sichuan Airlines to launch new international routes to destinations including Vientiane, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Seoul.
The carrier is also planning to launch direct long-haul flights to Europe or Australia by the end of 2020.
Sichuan Airlines’ main base is in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
