SilkAir confirms major B737 order
SilkAir has finalised an order for 54 Boeing 737s.
First announced in August this year, the order, which is worth US$4.9 million at list prices, is the largest single aircraft purchase in the Singapore-based carrier’s history. The order will be split, with 23 B737-800s arriving prior to 31 B737 MAX 8s – the new fuel-efficient version of the single-aisle aircraft which is due to enter service in 2017.
“The capability of the 737s will enable us to spread our wings to even more destinations and increase capacity on existing routes,” said SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Leslie Thng.
The order is a major boost for Boeing, as SilkAir currently operates an all Airbus fleet.
