Ultra-luxury cruise line Silversea has announced that its second small-sized expedition ship, which is currently sailing as the Galapagos Explorer II, will be named the Silver Galapagos.
The name will be used following a full refurbishment of the ship, which will take place in September 2013 with partial work – such as the painting of the hull to resemble the Silver Explorer – already completed.
According to the company, the Silver Galapagos will be the only luxury expedition ship to offer “socially and environmentally responsible ecotourism to the Galapagos archipelago”. The offering is something of a trend within the industry as many lines look to capitalise on the growing interest in eco-tourism.
Silversea’s Galapagos programme will go on sale in November 2012, offering two new 7-day itineraries which will launch in conjunction with the renovation of Silver Galapagos.
