Silversea has officially unveiled the Silver Discoverer – its third expedition ship.

Following a christening ceremony held this week at the Marina Bay Cruise Center in Singapore, the new vessel will take guests on a series of cultural, scientific and educational journeys to destinations in Australia and the Pacific.

“This is an exciting and proud moment for Silversea,” said the company’s chairman, Lefebvre d’Ovidio. “With itineraries encompassing some of the most fascinating and remote regions of the Pacific, Silver Discoverer will take our guests to places where few people have ever set foot – offering incredible opportunities not just for travel and learning, but for life-enriching cultural experiences.”

The 5,218-tonne Silver Discoverer can accommodate up to 120 guests in 62 ocean-view cabins. All rooms feature bars, refrigerators, rain showers and flatscreen TVs, and some of the suites also offer private balconies.

Public areas include a restaurant, lounge and lecture room, plus an outdoor dining and bar area, a swimming pool, sun deck, gym, beauty salon and spa.

Starting next month, the vessel will undertake a series of voyages to some of the world’s most secluded regions, with shore excursions and onboard programmes of lectures from experts including marine biologists, ornithologists, geologists, botanists, historians, and anthropologists.

The maiden voyage to Western Australia and the Northern Territory will depart on 2 April 2014.
