Singapore’s Marine Life Park adds activities
Marine Life Park, the attraction at Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa, has started rolling out a series of new activities aimed at getting guests closer to its live exhibits.
The first to debut is the ‘Open Ocean Dive’, which allows certified divers explore the 18.2 million-litre Open Ocean tank in the SEA Aquarium – the world’s largest aquarium. This new offering will provide divers with the chance to get up close with the tank’s 80 species of sea creatures, including rays and sharks. The 150-minute dive programme will run every day at 10.30am, and will be led by dive masters.
For guests without diving certificates, the park will be introducing the ‘Sea Trek Adventure’ from 30 June 2013. This hour-long programme includes a 20-minute underwater helmet diving experience, allowing guests to descend into the Open Ocean tank without the need for full diving gear.
“Getting near these majestic marine animals has never been easier, with a hassle-free experience from drive to dive. With all gear provided, it’s only a matter of suiting up and taking the plunge,” said Craig Sowden, chief curator of the Marine Life Park. “As guests immerse themselves in the middle of the marine ecosystems, they will encounter first-hand the relationship between marine life and humans. Through these unique experiences, we hope that our guests walk away with a deeper appreciation for marine animals and be inspired to do their part to help protect the treasures of the deep blue.”
In addition, from 15 June 2013 the park will launch a new Shark Encounter – a 30-minute experience offering guests the chance to descend inside a cylindrical enclosure into a tank filled with more than 200 sharks, including hammerheads and black-tip reef sharks.
Launched late last year, Marine Life Park covers eight hectares on the resort island of Sentosa, and includes SEA Aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark.
