Cambodia’s Sokha Hotels & Resorts has unveiled its latest environmental initiative – a major tree-planting initiative in Siem Reap.
The new Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center has partnered with the Cambodia’s Forestry Department to plant 1,000 trees within its 27 hectare grounds.
The pterocarpus macrocarpus, or Burma padauk trees, are a threatened species native to the Indochina region. The company has also invested in the rebuilding of the road surrounding the resort.
“Two years ago the company started the construction of Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center where it was an abandon area. Today the investment has transformed this part of Angkor Kyong-Yu Park to become a talk-of-the-town. We paid highly attention to all aspects of conservation and environmental consideration before, during and after the construction,” explained Sok Chanthy, Sokha’s group director of sales & marketing.
This tree-planting exercise forms part of the hotel group’s wider environmental programme; early this year, Sokha planted 1,000 sakura trees at the edge of the Bokor Mountain in southern Cambodia.
