SpiceJet has announced plans to launch its first international route from West India.
Commencing on 13 August, the low-cost carrier will fly from the city of Kolkata to Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, via Bagdogra, in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
“This is our first international flight from the state of West Bengal. We believe this flight will not only facilitate tourism, but also be important for the growth of trade between the two neighbouring nations,” said Kaneswaran Avili, SpiceJet’s chief commercial officer.
The new route will operate three times a week, departing Kolkata at 1130 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and arriving in Kathmandu at 1505, including a 1.5-hour stop in Bagdogra. The return service will leave Nepal’s capital at 1605, arriving back into Kolkata at 1920, again with a 1.5-hour stop at the Darjeeling hub.
All flights will be operated using a Boeing 737 aircraft.
The new flight will make SpiceJet the first Indian airline to operate internationally from Bagdogra. It will also boost SpiceJet’s total operations at Kathmandu to 14 weekly flights, including 11 services to and from Delhi.
