Spring Airlines is planning to launch international flights in the central Chinese city of Wuhan.

The low-cost carrier already operates some international routes from its home base of Shanghai, and is now targeting Northeast Asian destinations from Wuhan’s Tianhe International Airport.

“Wuhan is located in central China, and has an extensive high-speed railway networks. Therefore our main focus will be international routes, and Spring is likely to launch scheduled flights to South Korea and Japan,” said Zhang Wuan, spokesperson for Spring Airlines.

Currently, Thai AirAsia is the only low-cost carrier operating at Wuhan, offering daily flights to Bangkok. But Spring is currently expanding its operations, and is believed to be planning to place an order for up to 30 new Airbus A320s.

The capital of Hubei province, Wuhan is home to approximately 10 million people.
