Sri Lanka is to receive its first domestic airline next March from the parent company behind Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Chaaya Hotels & Resorts.
John Keells Holidays PLC, alongside MMBL Leisure Holdings and Phoenix Ventures, is to launch Cinnamon Air in March connecting Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo to Kandy, the Cultural Triangle, Hambantota/Yala and other destinations on the west and east coast during holiday periods.
Flights will aim to be scheduled alongside arrival and departure times of Sri Lankan Airlines and international carriers.
Services will be operated by Saffron Aviation and originally start with two amphibian aircraft that seat nine passengers each and another aircraft that seats 12.
The new airline will reduce transfer periods for tourists to the country.
