Arrivals to Sri Lanka rose 13.4% in January this year as compared to the same period last year.

Data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) shows 97,411 tourist arrivals in the country compared to the 85,874 arrivals in January 2012.

The island country saw an increase of 15.5% from South Asia with 22,191 tourists visiting the island. Of those arrived from the South Asia, 15,631 tourists from India. Sri Lanka fulfilled its target of one million tourist arrivals last year and earned over US$1 billion from tourism.
