Starwood Hotels & Resorts has continued its expansion in the Philippines with the signing of its first property in Mactan, Cebu province.
Scheduled to open in 2019, the new-build Sheraton Mactan Resort will feature 250 rooms and suites overlooking Magellan Bay. Facilities will include a spa, F&B outlets, a swimming pool and fitness centre, plus 1,313m² of conference and banqueting space.
The beachfront property will also feature 182 one- to three-bedroom serviced apartments, which will open in 2020.
“This property will not only strengthen our presence in Asia Pacific, but it will put Sheraton one step closer to its goal of opening more than 150 new hotels globally over the next five years,” said Rajit Sukumaran, Starwood’s senior vice president of acquisitions & development for Asia Pacific.
Starwood does not currently operate a hotel in the Philippines, but it has significant expansion plans in the country. As well as the Sheraton Mactan Resort, the company is also planning to open the Sheraton Manila and Westin Manila Bayshore in 2018 and Westin Manila Sonata Place in 2019.
