Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement for a new-build Westin hotel in Manila.
Scheduled to open in 2019, the new Westin Manila Sonata Place & The Residences at The Westin Manila Sonata Place are being developed by Robinsons Land Corporation in the Ortigas Business District of the Philippine capital.
The new project will mark Westin’s first mixed-use development in Southeast Asia, and will join the Sheraton Manila Hotel and Westin Manila Bayshore, which are scheduled to open in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
“We are thrilled to sign our first mixed-use development under the Westin brand in Southeast Asia,” said Charlie Dang, Starwood’s regional vice president for Southeast Asia.
“With the continued economic growth of the Philippines, and Manila in particular, we are seeing increased demand for upper-upscale international accommodations and we are confident that the Westin brand will resonate with travellers and potential homeowners.”
The Westin Manila Sonata Place will offer 300 rooms, while The Residences at The Westin Manila Sonata Place will feature almost 350 one- to three-bedroom private apartments. Facilities will include three F&B outlets, a fitness centre, spa and swimming pool. For the MICE market the property will feature two ballroom and six meeting rooms, covering more than 1,400m².
“Manila is currently enjoying an economic transformation, which has primed the destination for development,” said Rajit Sukumaran, Starwood’s senior vice president of acquisitions & development for Asia Pacific. “This signing underscores the company’s vigorous expansion plans in the vibrant island nation and we look forward to enhancing the hospitality landscape in this dynamic city.”
Starwood currently operates close to 300 hotels in Asia Pacific, with more than 230 in the pipeline, including the three in Manila.
