Starwood Hotels & Resorts has unveiled plans to double its portfolio of Four Points hotels in India in the next five years.

The company has signed three new Four Points properties in the country, in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

These join a portfolio of nine Four Points hotels across India, including properties in the key cities of Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi. And with seven other hotels in the pipeline, plus the three new signings, Four Points will expand to a collection of 19 Indian hotels by 2020.

“India today is still an ‘under-hoteled’ market, and the demand for high-calibre lodging is expected to far exceed current supply for at least the next three to five years,” said Dilip Puri, Starwood’s managing director for India.

“As domestic travel increases and Indian travellers continue to demand more sophistication in terms of both quality and experience, we have significant opportunity to grow our brands across the spectrum in gateway cities and tertiary markets as well as in resort destinations.”

Specifically, the three new hotels will be located in the cities of Bhopal and Vijayawada, and in the resort location of Vembanad Lake in Kerala. Other new Four Points locations in the coming years will include Dahej, Gurgaon, Tirupati, Vadodara, Aurangabad, Hyderabad and Tiruchirappalli.

And Sudeep Jain, Starwood’s vice president of acquisitions & development for South Asia, said there was a lot of potential for the brand in India’s up-and-coming second tier cities.

“Tier two markets provide untapped growth opportunities for us, particularly for our Four Points brand,” Jain said. “As the urban Indian landscape continues to evolve, demand will come from new markets and leisure destinations and we believe our widely recognised and admired brands are well-positioned to meet this demand.”

Four Points recently opened its 200th global hotel and is set to increase its worldwide portfolio by 50% in the next five years.
