Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement that will lead to the launch of its luxury St Regis brand in the Maldives.
Set to open in 2016, the St Regis Vommuli Resort will be located on a private island in the Dhaalu Atoll – a 40-minute seaplane ride from Malé.
Surrounded by beaches and a lagoon, the new resort will feature 77 private villas. Guests will have access to a spa with six treatment rooms, an infinity-edged swimming pool, fitness centre and yoga area, as well as a dive and activity centre. In terms of F&B, the St Regis will feature four restaurants and a bar.
“Celebrated as one of the world’s best addresses, the Maldives is a befitting destination to introduce the St Regis brand to a discerning set of global guests,” said Jim Petrus, global brand leader for St Regis Hotels & Resorts. “This incredible addition to the St Regis portfolio has been conceived in perfect harmony with the island’s lush vegetation and pristine lagoon.”
This announcement follows the recent signing of the St Regis Mumbai, which is scheduled to open before the end of the year. The St Regis Vommuli Resort joins a pipeline of 48 Starwood hotels in South Asia, including W Goa Retreat & Spa and Le Méridien Nagpur in India, Le Méridien Paro in Bhutan, Le Méridien and Sheraton hotels in Dhaka, and a Sheraton in Colombo. All of these properties are due to in the next two years.
“This signing further fuels Starwood’s strong growth momentum in South Asia, where we continue to see strong demand for high-end hotel accommodations,” said Sudeep Jain, Starwood’s vice president of acquisitions & development for South Asia. “The upcoming arrival of the St. Regis brand in the Maldives underpins our commitment to Starwood’s luxury portfolio in this dynamic market.”
The St Regis Vommuli Resort will become Starwood’s third resort in the Maldives, following the W Retreat & Spa Maldives and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.
