A new survey has cast doubt over the long-term benefits of the Olympics and Diamond Jubilee on the UK hospitality industry.

The TripAdvisor research asked more than 2,500 UK hotel operators if the two events would have a lasting effect on their business. More than half of respondents (58%) stated it would have no effect, while more than a third (35%) were more positive, saying there would be either a short- or long-term positive effect.

There does appear to be a positive feeling about 2012 however, with 79% of UK-based respondents describe their business as “profitable” or “very profitable” in the past six months. This makes Britain the third most positive market in Europe, behind only Turkey and Germany.

The threat of the eurozone crisis still looms large however, with 87% of UK respondents believing the debt crisis will have an impact on their businesses over the next six months. Of those accommodation owners who believe their businesses will be affected, 29% feel that the impact will be “major”.
