Swiss International Hotels Group, which operates properties in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, has taken its first steps into the Taiwanese hotel sector with the signing of a new franchise agreement.
The company has teamed up with Taiwan’s Yoko International Corporation with a view to building a “solid presence in the Taiwan hospitality market”.
This marks a continuation of the company’s Greater China strategy, which has already seen Swiss develop two hotels: a 588-room property in Xiamen and a 470-room hotel Nanchang. It also has hotels under development in Shanghai, Beijing, Guiyang, Kunming, Hangzhou and Wuyishan.
The first Swiss hotel in Taiwan will be a 270-room property in the high-tech development zone of Hsinchu, west of Taipei. This is scheduled to open in 2017 and will be followed by up to five new hotels across Taiwan within the next five years.
“We are delighted to expand our brands into Taiwan, which has been one of our priorities” said Benjamin Yan, chairman of Swiss International. “We are proud to be associated with YOKO and are confident that the hotels will fill some niches in this relatively mature hospitality market.”
Swiss International offers a series choice of brands, including the Swiss, Xence and Alpine. In addition to its Chinese properties, the company also operates hotels in Switzerland, Italy, Benelux, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. It also has an International service centre in the UAE.
