Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will equip its new fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Panasonic’s latest in-flight connectivity solution, providing passengers with Wi-Fi and 3G phone services.
The first of nine new B777s ordered by the Swiss national carrier has already entered service, featuring the new system. It will use Panasonic’s broadband network to allow passengers to email, surf the internet and make phone calls while in the air.
SWISS also has introduced Panasonic’s eXcite2 software to its in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems, featuring touch-screen displays with 3D effects.
“With such a significant global network, Panasonic is the natural choice for SWISS as it looks to offer its passengers a fully connected journey. Our provision of eXcite2 for the airline will also help transform not only the passenger experience, but also the ability of SWISS to open up revenue opportunities and enhance its brand through its entertainment systems,” said Paul Margis, CEO & president of Panasonic Avionics.
SWISS will deploy the new 340-seat, three-class B777s on long-haul routes to destinations including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tel Aviv.
