Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has taken delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which will be deployed on long-haul routes to Asia and the Americas.
The Swiss national carrier has ordered a total of nine B777-300ERs, which come equipped with 340 seats: eight in first class, 62 in business class and 270 in economy. All passengers will be offered in-flight Wi-Fi and mobile services.
The new aircraft will gradually enter service from the start of the 2016 summer schedules, on long-haul routes to destinations including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tel Aviv.
SWISS becomes a new Boeing customer, having previously operated a fleet of Airbus aircraft.
“We are honoured that a carrier as prestigious as SWISS is now our newest Boeing 777 operator,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ president & CEO, Ray Conner. “The 777-300ER will provide SWISS’ network with greatly improved efficiencies and it’s a great source of pride for everyone at Boeing that the carrier will utilise this outstanding airplane as its flagship.”
The nine new B777s join SWISS’ current long-haul fleet of 14 Airbus A330-300s and 15 A430-300s.
