Taiwan and China will allow international cruise companies to sail direct between the two countries next year, a Taiwanese official has said.
The China News Agency (CNA) reported Yeh Kuang-shih, Taiwan’s Minister of Transportation & Communications, as confirming that direct cross-Strait sailings would be permitted early next year.
Under the Cross-Strait Sea Transport Agreement, only ships registered in Taiwan or China are currently permitted to sail direct between China to Taiwan. International ships currently need to sail to a third country or territory before docking in either China or Taiwan.
At a press conference in Taipei’s Keelung Port, the minister also said that Taiwan would also start issuing multi-entry visas to cruise passengers – a move will allow cruise ships to visit several Taiwanese ports during the same itinerary.
