Taiwan’s V Air to suspend operations

V Air, the Taiwanese low-cost carrier, will cease to exist from 1 October 2016.
The airline, which is a subsidiary of TransAsia Airways, only started operating in December 2014, but will now be absorbed by its parent company.
V Air currently operates flights from Taipei to nine Asian destinations – six in Japan, two in Thailand and one in South Korea – using a fleet of four Airbus jets. TransAsia will take over the services to Chiang Mai and Fukuoka, while passengers booked on all the remaining routes will be offered refunds.
“V Air will suspend all its services from October 1st. All ticket sales for flights on or after October 1st will be stopped. V Air will continue operating all the scheduled flights until September 30th unless an unscheduled disruption occurs,” the LCC said in a statement.
The launch of V Air and its rival Tigerair Taiwan, marked a new era in Taiwanese air travel, as they became the country’s first ever LCCs.
