The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has said it will revise its strategies to boost tourists from slowing markets, following the recent slump in visitor arrivals. The Nation has reported that China, along with Japan and South, will form the main part of the drive, with TAT Governor Phornsiri Manoharn saying that the authority will organise three roadshows in Xi’an, Xiamen and Shenzhen in an effort to restore consumer confidence in Thailand.
“The TAT aims to make China the biggest inbound market over the next three years,” Governor Phornsiri said.
The TAT has also scheduled talks with the Japan Travel Association in a bid to lure tourists back to the Kingdom. Meanwhile, the TAT office in South Korea is planning similar strategies, reportedly focusing on attracting honeymoon couples. However the new drive is not only limited to Asian markets. The TAT is marketing heavily in Europe and is in reported discussion with French charter flight operator SL about the carrier launching flights to Thailand during the high season.
“The TAT has ordered all overseas offices and representatives to approach new markets to meet the shortfall from some other markets,” Phornsiri said.
Thailand is likely to be boosted to yesterday’s news that the state of emergency in Bangkok has now been lifted, following the departure of former Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.
