Marriott International expects tertiary markets to fuel its growth in India in the coming years.

The Hindu reported a senior company official as saying that many of its new properties being launched in 2016 will be outside of the major Indian cities.

“We have lot of supply in markets like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. While we expect these will consolidate, and the overall pie to grow, the larger margins will come from tertiary markets,” Neeraj Govil, Marriott’s vice president for South Asia, was quoted saying.

In 2016, Marriott plans to launch its Fairfield Inn brand in Lucknow, Jodhpur, Belgaum and Amritsar while a new Marriott Hotel will open in Jaisalmer. Currently, Marriott has around 7,500 rooms in India, covering 32 properties in 18 cities.

Marriott is also expanding its sponsorships in India and is now backing the IPL cricket team, Rising Pune Supergiants. Under the deal, the team’s players will sport the Marriott logo their kits.
