Thai AirAsia is launching two new domestic routes to Khon Kaen, the city in northeast Thailand.
Effective 28 April 2016, the low-cost carrier will offer daily flights to Khon Kaen from Chiang Mai and Hat Yai, the largest cities in northern and southern Thailand. These will run in addition to the airline’s existing four daily flights between Khon Kaen and Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.
“Khon Kaen is considered the centre of the northeastern region and has much to offer in terms of tourism and convention organisation,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia.
“Thai AirAsia has seen strong feedback for its Don Mueang-Khon Kaen route, which operates four times a day. The province is also surrounded by equally interesting destinations such as Udon Thani, Roi Et, Mahasarakam and Kalasin. The airline is confident its connections from Khon Kaen to both Chiang Mai and Hat Yai will stir interest and demand,” he added.
The Chiang Mai-Khon Kaen route will depart the northern Thai city daily at 0700 and arrive in Khon Kaen at 0810. The return flights will then leave at 1420 and arrive back in Chiang Mai at 1540.
On the Hat Yai route, services will leave Khon Kaen at 0920 and arrive in Hat Yai at 1120. The return flights will then depart the southern city at 1150 and arrive back in Khon Kaen at 1350.
Both routes will be operated using Thai AirAsia’s 180-seat, all-economy Airbus A320 aircraft.
Thai AirAsia operates flights from six bases in the country: Bangkok (Don Mueang), Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya (U-Tapao) and Hat Yai.
