Following the recent launch of its first ever flights to Laos, Thai AirAsia has unveiled plans to add a second route to the landlocked Southeast Asian country.
The Bangkok-based low-cost carrier started flying to Luang Prabang on 24 March 2016, and from 1 July it will commence operations to the Lao capital, Vientiane.
Like the Luang Prabang route, the new Vientiane service will operate daily, with flights departing Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport at 1205 and arriving at Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport at 1325. The return flight will then take off at 1415 and arrive back in Bangkok at 1535.
And like all Thai AirAsia flights, the new service will be operated using an all-economy Airbus A320 aircraft.
“AirAsia becoming the first low-cost airline to connect Thailand and Lao PDR means easier and more convenient travel for all,” said Santisuk Klongchaiya, the airline’s director of commercial. “We have seen our customer base in the segment expand rapidly, both among tourists and entrepreneurs.
“With Vientiane being the financial centre of Lao PDR and a key destination for trade, we are sure many Thai businesses will see the easier, more cost effective travel to the city as a boon. At the same time, we hope to attract many Laotian travellers to Thailand by offering them a direct route to the kingdom,” he added.
The new route will further expand Thai AirAsia’s international network in Indochina. It currently flies from Bangkok to Yangon, Mandalay, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang and now Vientiane.
