AirAsia has continued its rapid expansion with the launch of Thai AirAsia X – a new long-haul low-cost carrier based in Bangkok.
The new airline becomes the second new AirAsia carrier to commence operations this month, following the earlier launch of AirAsia India.
Thai AirAsia X’s first flight to Seoul Incheon International Airport took off from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport on Tuesday and will now operate daily. Future expansion plans for Thai AirAsia X include routes to Tokyo and Osaka.
The airline is intended to complement the existing operations of Bangkok-based short-haul carrier Thai AirAsia, providing services with a flying time of more than four hours. This could include more destinations in Northeast Asia, as well as Australia, India, the Middle East and further afield.
Thai AirAsia X will initially operate using a fleet of twin-aisle 377-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft, offering 12 flat-bed seats in business class and 365 seats in economy.
It becomes the seventh carrier in the AirAsia stable, following short-haul units based in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and India, and long-haul AirAsia X carriers in Malaysia and now Thailand.
