Thai AirAsia X struggled to fill seats on the two routes

Thai AirAsia X is suspending all of its Middle Eastern operations, just a few months after it entered the region, the Bangkok Post reports.

The Bangkok-based low-cost carrier started flying to Muscat and Tehran in June this year, but flights to Iran’s capital city ceased operating on 5 December and the Oman flights will be suspended on 19 January 2017.

This follows a reduction in the frequency of both routes in November, from three to two flights per week. But even these measures were insufficient to save the routes, which have struggled with low demand.

Thai AirAsia X served both routes with its 377-seat, twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft.
