Thai Airways International (THAI) has announced plans to expand its European route map with the launch of direct flights to Vienna.

The new long-haul route will commence on 16 November 2017, with the national carrier planning to operate four weekly flights non-stop between Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and Vienna International Airport. The carrier will serve the route using a Boeing 777 aircraft.

On the outbound leg, flight TG936 will be a night flight, departing Bangkok at 0130 every Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and arriving in the Austrian capital at 0700. The return flights then take off from Vienna at 1330 and land back at Suvarnabhumi at 0520 the following morning.

Usanee Sangsingkeo, THAI’s acting president and executive vice president of commercial, said that Vienna was the “perfect gateway to Europe region”.

“It is a pleasure to introduce Vienna as THAI’s newest destination in Europe,” Ms Usanee said. “Passengers can easily connect to cities in Europe and from Europe to Thailand conveniently with THAI’s network.”

THAI currently flies to 12 cities across 10 countries in Europe: Copenhagen, Oslo, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Stockholm, London, Rome, Milan and Moscow. It will become the third carrier operating the Bangkok-Vienna route, following Austrian Airlines and EVA Air.
