Thailand looks to attract more Muslim visitors

In a effort to boost its Muslim visitor numbers, Thailand recently rolled out its smartphone app.

This app is specifically directed to Muslim visitors. The tourism authority is of the opinion that the new app will help further boost Thailand’s tourism sector, which makes up about 10% of its economy.

The app will be made available on Google’s Android and Apple Inc’s iOS systems. Some of the highlights of the app include search and navigation features specifically targeted to Muslim-travellers needs. The app will help visitors find hotels and shopping centres with prayer rooms and halal restaurants.

With an expectancy of 29.5 million tourists in 2015, the app is being made available in English and Thai but will be expanded to include Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia.
