Akaryn Hotel Group, which operates luxury boutique hotels in Thailand, has unveiled plans for its first property in Laos.

Scheduled to open in March 2016, The President by Akaryn will be located in the centre of the Lao capital, Vientiane, and will feature just 30 luxury rooms including two presidential suites.

Originally built by the Chinese government as a “gift” to Laos, The President blends traditional and colonial design. Despite being a small hotel it will offer seven dining options and a ballroom for up to 1,000 people.

The hotel will also house a private member’s club with access to a cigar lounge and whisky cellar, while the Ayurah Wellness Centre will offer guests a range of health and fitness programmes. There is also an outdoor pool.

“Vientiane has long been a favourite destination of mine, and we are proud to offer a wonderfully unique hotel both for guests wishing to enjoy the city and the region and for business travellers as well as play host to weddings and other celebratory events on an intimate or grand scale,” said Anchalika Kijkanakorn, founder and managing director of Akaryn.

“We are very excited to be able to preserve the heritage of this stunning building and reinstate it as one of the most spectacular landmarks in Laos.”

Akaryn currently operates hotels in Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai, but its regional expansion will continue in June 2016 with the opening of Arovada by Akaryn, the company’s first hotel in Cambodia.
