Thailand’s first halal hotel has opened its doors in Bangkok, aiming to cater to the fast-growing Muslim travel market.
The TS Family Group has invested THB1 billion (US$28.6 million) in the Al Meroz Hotel, which is located close to Ramkhamhang Station, on the rail link connecting downtown Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi Airport. The property features 242 rooms and suites, three restaurants, a large outdoor swimming pool, gymnasium and meeting rooms.
And as a Muslim-friendly hotel, all food will be halal, there will be no alcohol served, and the hotel will also feature prayer rooms.
“Presently there are around 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, roughly 23% of the global population,” said Rausak Mulsap, president & CEO of the Al Meroz Hotel.
“It is projected to increasingly a bigger number to 2.2 billion Muslims by 2030, which reach 26.4% of the global population. This growth also claims a large share of the world’s consumer spending. Furthermore, there isn’t any halal-friendly hotel to cater Muslim travellers in Thailand, so we do not want to miss out on a huge opportunity in the halal tourism market.”
The hotel has been certified by the Dubai-based Gulf Halal organization, ensuring that halal standards are maintained. The hotel says it is targeting “high-end Muslim markets and non-Muslim in Asia, Middle East and Europe”.
“[The] 100% halal hotel concept at Al Meroz means more than offering food gaining halal certification, but we also provide Muslim-friendly environments catering their religious needs, safety, trustworthiness and hygiene. We hope this new concept will attract tourist who looking for new experience in their vacation too,” Rausak added.
