Thailand has outlined five mega tourism projects expected to cost Bt3 billion (US$95.4 million).
The new Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat outlined these as part of a five-year tourism development plan starting this year, The Nation reported.
The first project aims to create a “civilisation tourism route” between Thailand and Myanmar. The second project is on building eco-tourism. The third is the “Thailand Riviera” project, which, The Nation said, was initially proposed some years ago. It aimed to build new tourism magnets along the Gulf of Thailand.
The fourth project is on promoting the Mekong River as a new destination. The last project calls for the building of the Thai-Khmer cultural route.
The Minister was quoted saying that the projects were intended to attract more foreign tourists and stimulate domestic tourism.
