Next summer APT guests will be able to travel to the heart of ‘The Sound of Music’ as Nicholas Hammond, who played eldest son Friedrich von Trapp in the classic film, is the guest of honour. Guests will be treated to more than a few of the celebrated actor’s favourite things throughout the special 20 August 2017 Magnificent Europe 15-day sailing. As they explore at least sixteen, going on seventeen, characterful towns across Germany, Austria and Hungary, passengers will be treated to insider tales from Hammond’s time on set.
In keeping with the tour’s musical theme, guests will also be treated to a recital of well-known songs from the film whilst soaking up the spirit of the Habsburg Empire aboard the Majestic Imperator as part of APT’s VIP Signature Experiences. The viisit to the historic city of Salzburg will offer the opportunity to visit some of the cherished sites which provided an unforgettable backdrop to the award-winning film. A special ‘Sound of Music’ tour will help guests explore the Church of Mondsee, the location of the movie wedding between Maria and the Baron. Guests can also visit the Mirabell Gardens, where Maria, Friedrich and the rest of the von Trapp children used the steps as a musical scale during “Do Re Mi”. The 15-day luxury river cruise departs Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on 20 August 2017, calling at Cologne and other beautiful towns and villages along the Rhine. Then on to Austria, including stops at Salzburg, Linz, and Vienna and finally to Budapest (Hungary), where passengers disembark and say so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu to their Sound of Music experience.
