Thrifty Car Rental, which forms part of the Hertz International group, has launched operations in Thailand.
The company has partnered with Hertz’s Thai franchise partner, Paragon Car Rental, to open its first two car rental outlets in Bangkok and Pattaya. And these are expected to be followed by multiple new branches across the country in the coming months.
“It is truly exciting for us to see Thrifty’s expansion to Thailand,” said Michel Taride, Hertz’s group president.
“Already a much sought-after destination by millions of international travellers every year, the addition of low-cost airline routes to Thailand is expected to drive even further growth potential for the Thrifty brand.
“With its high standard of service, our longstanding franchise partner Paragon Car Rental… is ideally positioned to serve not only international visitors, but also domestic customers,” he added.
The first Thrifty car rental branches are now open on Bangkok’s Sathorn Road and on North Pattaya Road in the eastern beach resort. The company is now planning to expand to seven airport locations across Thailand in 2016, including Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang), Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Koh Samui and Khon Kaen.
Paragon Car Rental has been Hertz’s franchise partner in Thailand since 1993 and currently operates 17 car rental outlets for the company across Thailand.
“Having successfully operated Hertz Thailand for 13 years, we are now ready to step forward with an additional exciting adventure by launching Thrifty Thailand. Embracing Hertz’s multi-brand strategy will help us expand our market, and target additional customer segments. We are looking forward to welcoming customers to Thrifty Thailand as we grow the brand’s footprint across the country,” said Chartchai Panichewa, Paragon Car Rental’s executive board chairman.
The Thailand launch forms part of Thrifty’s Asian expansion strategy, which started last year. The company also operates in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
