Tourism is fast becoming one of the pillars of Egypt’s economy constituting 11.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 14.4% of total foreign currency income and 45% of total service exportation as well as 12.6% of Egypt’s labor power. These statistics were revealed by Hisham Zaazou’s, minister of tourism.
Recent statistics also show a rise in hotel reservation of up to 90% at Sharm Al-Sheikh during holidays. In addition, about 308,000 tourists visited Red Sea in March 2014, including about 239,000 from 21 European countries who visited Hurghada in the same month.
It is also being witnessed that many companies have started to launch campaigns to activate domestic tourism. This segment witnessed remarkable growth as statistics show a rise of up to 100% during Spring break in Red Sea and South Sinai.
