Tourism New Zealand is targeting the bicycle tourism sector, by exhibiting at a major Australian cycling exhibition.
The tourism board will make its debut at the Cycling Australia and SBS Bike & Lifestyle Show on 19-20 October 2013, with a stand featuring nine tour operators from various regions across New Zealand.
It will be promoting the fact that the country has more than 2,500km of cycle ways, with a 3D map offering views of the country’s 23 main cycle routes. iPads will also be stationed around the map and attendees will be offered the chance to enter a prize draw to win a New Zealand cycling holiday.
“Cycling is the fastest-growing participation sport in Australia and New Zealand ticks all the boxes when it comes to diversity, proximity and accessibility,” said Tourism New Zealand’s general manager for Australia, Tim Burgess.
“It’s a chance to bring the New Zealand cycleway offering to life and inspire people to put New Zealand at the top of their cycling holiday list.”
In conjunction with the show, Tourism New Zealand has also released a cycling video on YouTube showcasing the North Island’s Hauraki Rail Trail.
This news follows the New Zealand government’s commitment to develop New Zealand’s cycle trails, as part of a NZ$50 million (US$42m) investment into the country adventure tourism offerings.
